City of St. Ignace Downtown Development Authority
The St. Ignace Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was created in 1981 through an ordinance passed by the City Council. The City Council recognized a need to halt property value deterioration and to promote economic growth.
Since the creation of the DDA, the downtown area has seen many development projects including the Huron Boardwalk, a major streetscape project, the development of three downtown waterfront parks, and the purchase of the railroad property which led to City’s construction of the Little Bear East Arena. There have been many improvements to the Museum of Ojibwa Culture and grounds area, and two major partnerships with private investors to fill anchor stores in the DDA District.
DDA Board meetings are held the 2nd Friday of each month at 8:00 a.m. in the City Council Chambers.
Cloverland Electric CooperativeCloverland Electric Cooperative
Cloverland Electric Cooperative
Cloverland Electric Cooperative was built by the communities we serve to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable energy to our cooperative members. The co-op services 43,000 meters, with 4,000 miles of line through five rural counties in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Cloverland maintains local control of Sault Ste. Marie’s historic hydroelectric power plant, which contributes to generating 40-50% of the co-op’s power with renewable energy. As an electric cooperative, we are locally owned and operated yet we’re also a part of something bigger. Across the country, electric cooperatives work together to restore power during major outages, develop new technologies, and build infrastructure that benefits us all.
Cloverland Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit, member-owned utility focused on delivering exceptional services through the generation and safe delivery of reliable and affordable energy solutions that encourage growth, foster innovation, and strengthen the communities we serve.
Cloverland Electric Cooperative was founded in 1938 to provide electricity across the rural communities of Michigan’s Eastern Upper Peninsula. The co-op acquired Edison Sault Electric in 2010, nearly doubling the size of Cloverland’s member base. Cloverland Electric started with 1,090 members and now powers over 33,000 members across five counties. While membership has grown over the years, the primary mission remains to provide our members with safe, reliable, and affordable electricity.

MI-Resolve: A New Way to Resolve Disputes Online
This is a new service supported by the Michigan Supreme Court’s Administrative Office to provide a free, quick and easy means of resolving disputes that are typically filed as a small claims or landlord/tenant case in the district court.
Through MI-Resolve, parties can resolve their disputes with or without the help of a mediator. Parties can also arrange to meet with a mediator in person or via videoconference. Mediation is a process in which a trained neutral person (a mediator) helps parties identify a solution to a dispute that best works for them. Mediators do not take sides, evaluate claims, or provide legal advice.
“To assist people in resolving their disputes in a confidential, affordable, and peaceful manner by providing trained mediators in a neutral setting.”
CMS is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization. Donations are welcomed and may be tax-exempt.
Being a volunteer mediator can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. Every case brings a new set of problems that need solving, feelings that need calming, relationships that need repairing. Not every mediation ends in agreement. But those that do often leave us with a feeling of satisfaction that is uniquely rewarding and different from any other volunteer experience you may have had in the past.
