Sault Tribe Children’s Christmas Party at Kewadin Shores Casino

A Kids Christmas Party will be held Sunday, December 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kewadin Shores Casino. The party, hosted by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, will be a drive-thru-only event open to all children, and it will take place outside of the Kewadin front main entrance.

The party will be full of Christmas spirit, from colorful lights to cheerful characters, as families are greeted when they drive up, said Kewadin Shores Casino shift manager.

Tim Ryerse, who helps coordinate the event.

“They will be met by an elf who will ask how old each child is,” said Mr. Ryerse.

The elves will then get a present ready for the children. As families drive through, Santa and Mrs. Claus will hand out gifts. Children will receive one toy, a stuffed stocking, and a ticket, said Mr. Ryerse.

Grand prize gifts for children 12 and under will be awarded via a drawing. The ticket children receive upon entry will go into the drawing, and the winners will be announced Monday, December 5.

The St. Ignace Area Schools band will provide music, alongside childhood favorite characters such as Frosty the Snowman and the Grinch. About 400 children are given gifts at the event, which began nine years ago.

“Last year was a great success,” said Mr. Ryerse, noting that he hopes this year is just as well attended and successful.
