Horses Off the Island
When Autumn arrives in St. Ignace, visitors to the area start heading home. Another group starts heading home, too. The horses that work so hard on Mackinac Island start on a journey to their winter home in the Pickford area to enjoy a well-deserved rest.
The horses make their way through the downtown area of Mackinac Island to the ferry docks, sometimes in group of 5 or 6. They then board the ferry for a quick trip to St. Ignace. Another hour on the road and they’ve reached their winter playground!
